Its a strange world out there at times, yesterday was an epic day, the unit was very quiet, which is unusual but nice, particularly as there was a major triathalon here, we only got one patient from this. But of course as we were quiet i was asked to do a patient escort to the city hospital, no worries. except i thought i would be home relatively close to our usual time. er, wrong. Of course the ambo was called out on the way home, lights and sirens, me holding on for dear life in the back onto the jesus bar, the driver was a madman, a large extroverted man, and his offsider skinny and quiet- complete opposites!
But these two men were amazing, skillfull and kind souls with a great sense of humour, really salt of the earth people. So even though i ended up doing the rounds of northern Brisbane, with a screaming child in the back, thinking we were going to die at any moment, it all seemed worth it. We help people at their worst, and its very rewarding when all comes out well. The little babe was fine, mum teary, and hugely relieved when we arrived at the hospital, as was i , thinking it was a good thing i went to the loo before we left the city! I fell asleep on the way home, staggered back to the unit after 16 hours, signed off and slept like the dead !
